In her Introduction Olive Smith comments, "So Edwin Smith is known as a photographer and his achievements in other spheres have been largely ignored. He described himself as an architect by profession, a painter by inclination and a photographer by necessity. "I am the only artist", he used to say with a wry but cheerful smile, "who has a complete collection of his own work."" These are wonderfully alive and amusing woodcuts.
