The English Scene

Risbury: the Whittington Press, 2004.

A survey by John O’Connor of the best of his earlier work, little of which has been seen before, with comments by the artist about each block. This book was on the press when the artist died (5 March 2004) and incorporates his last wishes to have a number of the wood engravings printed in colour or with a second colour lino block. Number XIV of 55 special copies, initialed by the artist, and accompanied by a matching portfolio holding 4 large wood engravings one of which is titled and signed in pencil by the artist. Set in 14 pt. Bell type and printed on Fabriano and Hahnemuhle Ingres and Oxford cream laid papers (some of the rare stock of fine papers acquired from Oxford University Press nearly twenty years ago). 12.5 X 9.75 ins. 72 pp. Half bound in oasis morocco with printed paper covered boards after a wood engraving by the artist. Gilt title on spine. 37 wood engravings by John O’Connor. As new in matching board slipcase.
