Paul NASH (1989-1946)
Engraving on copper, 1971
Issued by Alexander Postan in association with The Tate Gallery and The Paul Nash Trust
125 x 200 mm
A recently discovered copper engraving here in the first and the final state from the estate of Iain Stuart Bain (1934-2018). Bain was the world authority on the wood engravings of Thomas Bewick and an expert on printing techniques. He wrote extensively on the history of copper plate printing and was Head of Publications at The Tate Gallery when Nash’s copper plate was discovered and issued in a limited edition which may account for him having both the first state and the final state of the engraving.
