Holmes was also the Slade Professor of Art at Oxford from 1904 to 1910, Director of the National Portrait Gallery 1909-1916 and of the National Gallery 1916-1918. He recalls Ruskin, Pater, Shannon, Wilde, Roger Fry, Sargent, Walter Sikert, etc. A near fine Presentation copy, “To T,B,L. and Mrs Lewis from Holmski March 1st 1936”.
