Frontispiece photo portrait and 15 plates. Reminiscences covering the years 1895 to 1925 and Holmes’ association with the Ballantyne Press, publisher John C. Nimmo and the Vale Press. Holmes was also the Slade Professor of Art at Oxford from 1904 to 1910, Director of the National Portrait Gallery 1909-1916 and of the National Gallery 1916-1918. He recalls Ruskin, Pater, Shannon, Wilde, Roger Fry, Sargent, Walter Sikert, etc. A near fine Presentation copy, “To T,B,L. and Mrs Lewis from Holmski March 1st 1936”.
