Seventeen letters from Paul Nash to Oliver Simon covering numerous items including the production of “Genesis” and “Urne Burial”. Number XXII of XXV special copies bound in quarter black goatskin with paper covered boards after a Nash pattern paper. Total edition 125 copies. Printed for Front Street by Hand & Eye Letterpress in Bembo type on Somerset mould-made paper. 9 X 6 ins. 26 pp. + Colophon. Bound by the Fine Bindery. Frontispiece facsimile of Nash’s wood engraving, “Coronilla 2”, tipped-in and a facsimile of Nash’s working directions for “Urne Burial”. Paul Nash and Oliver Simon working with the Curwen Press produced two of the most important illustrated books of the twentieth century; “Genesis” and “Urne Burial & The Garden of Cyrus”. These remain outstanding examples of illustrated books to this day. These Letters offer an insight into how the artist and creative publisher worked together.
